Welcome to Pungo Maples
Cultivating rare beauty, exceptional hardiness, and lifelong passion in the heart of Virginia Beach.
🍁 Rooted in Passion & Local Dedication
Nestled in the agricultural heartland of Virginia Beach, Pungo Maples was born from a deep fascination with the radiant, multi-season color transitions of Japanese maples. With over 100 different cultivars in stock to choose from, stop by our nursery or order online. We can deliver your trees, or you can pick them up at our nursery.
Unlike mass-commercial nurseries and big-box stores that ship from dense greenhouses, where trees often appear narrow and unhealthy due to limited sunlight and growing stress, every specimen at Pungo Maples is professionally grafted, hand-pruned, and grown outdoors in the Virginia Beach climate. This ensures maximum vigor, exceptional quality, and superior adaptability to our unique Mid-Atlantic coastal growing conditions.
🌿 Locally Acclimated Vigor
Our trees experience local summer humidity, seasonal temperature shifts, and regional soil conditions from day one, ensuring superior field resilience when planted in your landscape.
✨ Rare & Collector Cultivars
Beyond traditional landscape standards, we curate blue-chip collector varieties, exclusive Ghost series specimens, and magnificent Full Moon selections rarely found in retail centers.
🤝 No Seedlings
Unlike trees sold through online marketplaces, our Japanese maples are never grown from seedlings, where color, form, and growth habits can be unpredictable. Every Pungo Maples tree is professionally grafted from a true parent cultivar, ensuring it is genetically identical to the original. This guarantees consistent color, reliable growth habits, and the exceptional beauty and performance that the cultivar is known for throughout its lifetime.
